While traditional dental fillings, sealants, and composites often contain BPA, mercury, and other potentially harmful materials, Kozica Dental uses only BPA- and mercury-free materials.
BPA-free Composite Material
In the dental world, there’s great concern over the use of Bisphenol A, or BPA, in sealants and other dental composites. A variety of consumer goods contain BPA, including plastic water bottles, electronic coatings, and others. A study published by The Open Dentistry Journal found that more than 86 percent of dental composite resins also contain BPA, often as a by-product of other ingredients that have degraded.
According to a study by Cynthia Marie Metz, MS, BSN, RN, this material is linked to a number of health conditions ranging from infertility and early puberty to diabetes and obesity. Although the American Dental Association maintains that the small quantities of BPA sometimes found in these dental composites are not harmful, Kozica Dental does not expose its patients to any dental materials containing BPA. Patient safety and comfort is our priority, so our practice uses only the highest quality BPA-free composite materials.
SMART Certification
Dr. Kozica has completed extensive training to become certified by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) to safely remove fillings containing mercury. When amalgam fillings are removed, quantities of toxic mercury vapor can be released and may be inhaled by patients and staff. Dr. Kozica’s SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) Certification allows our team to safely remove amalgam fillings to protect patients from excessive exposure to toxic mercury vapor. Our team always follows the rigorous safety measures outlined by the IAOMT to reduce patient exposure to harmful materials during dental procedures.
